VOLUNTEERISM
Lloyd is currently a founding member and sits on the Board of Green Fields Trust, an organization that supports emerging leaders of change who transform the way they view themselves and others in the world. The result is greater self-awareness and expression of humanistic values through individual development and community building activities. Green Fields Trust has recently partnered with the University of Toronto’s New College to help fund academic courses in non-violence and social change as practised by world leaders such as M.K. Gandhi and Dr. A. Ariyaratne (link to www.sarvodaya.org).
Lloyd is also an advisor to the Board of Focus on Ethnic Women; an advisor to the Board of Bereaved Families of Ontario (Mid-Western Region); and Chair of the Human Resources Committee of the Alzheimer Society of Kitchener-Waterloo. In particular, he has been involved in strategic planning with these organizations.
Previous volunteer Board positions include Lutherwood/Luther Village; Sarvodaya USA; and President/Secretary of Nalanda College.
Lloyd was also a Board Executive Committee member and Chair of the Human Resources Committee of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Association, where he facilitated the development of the Association’s first Strategic Plan. This initiative received many accolades, and the Plan was featured in a number of American orchestral journals and is still in use today as a positive development model of Strategic Planning in the Arts.
After the death of their daughter 20 years ago, Lloyd and his wife Joyce and son Russell created the Kyra Field Memorial Fund with the intention of setting up a telephone help line for students at Kyra’s school. This led to a partnership with the Executive Director of Kids Help Phone, which was in the initial stages of forming its national organization. Lloyd was a founding Executive Committee member of the Kids Help Foundation, and Joyce dedicated herself as a volunteer. The Kyra Field Memorial Fund continues to support the Kids Help Foundation by providing funds for professional counsellors to participate in training projects and education.
“I cannot express to you how much we all appreciate your guidance and advice in helping us manage this organization. You have had a profound and wonderful, positive effect on our ability to achieve our mission of making a difference in people’s lives. I can’t thank you enough for your support and help, not just recently, but over the years. You are truly a mentor and a friend.”
